The Djed pillar is an ancient Egyptian symbol meaning stability and is the symbolic backbone of the god Osiris. After Osiris was murdered by his brother Set (Set chopped his body parts up and flung them all over Egypt) Isis, with her sister Nepthys (who was also the wife of Set) searched for them. The Spine of Osiris was carried by the Nile to the ocean and on to the city of Byblos in Syria. It ran aground and a  sacred tree took root and rapidly grew around it - enclosing it within its trunk. Meanwhile Isis, who was also aided by Anubis, came to know of its location. She maneuvered herself into the favour of the king and queen and was granted a wish. She asked for the pillar in the palace hall. She then consecrated it, annointing it with myrrh, and wrapped it in linen. This pillar came to be known as the Pillar of Djed.
